5 Fun and Fashionable Kitchen Features That Don’t Require a Huge Space
If a home is where the heart is, then the kitchen is the main artery. It’s the focal point of any home, and often is the first place people start when looking to make changes to their property.
While we all can appreciate a giant kitchen island, an impressive kitchen doesn’t necessarily require high square footage. Whether you’re doing a complete kitchen renovation or just refreshing with a few new items, a little creativity can go a long way! Here are five features that can help you transform your kitchen, without requiring a massive space:
1. Pendant lighting
Recessed lighting won’t be fading away anytime soon; however, pendant lighting is becoming increasingly popular. With almost endless pendant lighting options, it’s an easy way to express your individuality and personal style. Because it’s such a noticeable feature, it has the power to completely transform your room, even if it’s the only thing you update for the time being.
2. Eye-catching hood ranges and back-splashes
No longer a purely functional item, range hoods now come it an array of shapes, styles, and materials. Back-splashes provide another outlet for creativity, with many of our clients opt for unique tiling. If you want to incorporate a pop of colour or a fun design but don’t want to cover an entire wall with it, the backsplash is the perfect place to do something a little different. A stainless steel wall-mounted hood range looks exceptionally sharp when paired with a custom mosaic back-splash.
3. Magnetic knife strip
Short on counter space? Ditch the chunky knife-block. Experts say that you don’t need more than three or four good knives anyway, and a magnetic knife strip is the perfect storage solution for the contemporary chef.
4. Rolling kitchen island
If you’ve always had a kitchen island on your renovation wish list but don’t have the space, some smart designs can help make your dreams come true. A rolling island, such as this one designed by Nichola Clare Designs (pictured below), is an excellent option for those short on space. This portable item can be tucked up against the wall as part of the counter or pulled out to function as an island.
5. Smart Fridge
It may feel like something out of sci-fi movie, but the latest in smart technology has reached kitchen appliances! With cameras inside the fridge, shared family shopping lists that sync with an app and food expiry notifications, you’ll never have to wonder what you’re out of while grocery shopping again. Some new models even have the capability to change drawer temperatures from fridge, to freezer, to wine chiller, with just a press of a button.
