Complete Home Renovations Calgary
Calgary’s Full Home Renovators
Discover the Value of Residential Renovations in Calgary
According to industry statistics, nearly half of Canadian homeowners took on some type of renovation project in the last couple of years, and the number of complete home renovation projects are projected to increase even more in the future. If you’re considering any type of home renovation in the near future, you’re certainly not alone.
Are Home Renovations Worth the Investment?
The answer to that question isn’t as easy to answer as it might seem. If you’re planning on selling, targeted renovation projects may well add value and appeal to the home, but fully recovering the investment isn’t always easy. That’s one reason it’s vitally important to work with Calgary home renovation experts when deciding which projects to invest in.
However, there is another aspect to consider when discussing full home renovations. Many Canadian homeowners have no intention of marketing their properties in the near future—they’re updating their homes to better meet their families’ needs. While budget issues are still important, these families are not as concerned with an immediate return on investment.
Regardless of the reason for a home renovations project, there are many elements involved that need to be discussed and decided on. Since the type of renovation will, to some extent, determine what steps should be considered, it pays to work closely with a remodelling expert throughout all phases of a project.
Evolving changes in how people use their homes have led to higher demands for home additions. While adding a bedroom or bath has been relatively common for years, today’s homeowners often add media centers, hobby areas, and exciting new kitchen areas that dwarf the home’s original features. Contractors working with design experts routinely provide homeowners with benefits that were virtually unimaginable only a few years ago.
One of the newer trends is adding space for extended family members. When ageing parents look for ways to avoid moving to senior housing, children frequently add living quarters designed to meet their parent’s needs and allow them to age in place.
Modern kitchens are no longer the rather simplistic and mundane rooms that were once common. Today’s kitchens tend to be far larger and better equipped than those constructed in the past. Also, open floor plans are now the norm, which often means homeowners are looking for ways to remove walls and enlarge the common living spaces.
Cabinets are routinely replaced during any type of kitchen renovations. While obtaining cabinets from a local supplier is certainly an option, many property owners are taking advantage of customized cabinets to make the most of their kitchen’s spaces. Drawers are replacing deep, inaccessible base cabinets, and upper cabinets are all but disappearing in some parts of the country as people opt for a more open, spacious look.
Of course, countertops are also a concern when updating a kitchen. Granite has been considered the best countertop material for many years, but other materials are now enjoying an upsurge in popularity. During the design phase of the project, take the time to explore the various countertop products before deciding which one to choose for your home.
It also pays to choose the appliances that will be installed, carefully. Cooking enthusiasts, for example, may well demand high-end cooking appliances from manufacturers like Viking, Wolf, and La Cornue. The types and sizes of cooking appliances, refrigeration equipment, and even wine coolers must all be considered when planning a kitchen.
Over the years, a home’s exterior will show signs of weathering. At the same time, styles of windows, siding, and doors have certainly changed. That means an older home, even one with a more traditional style, may well appear dated. Exterior renovations update the look of a property, make the home more energy efficient, and dramatically improve a home’s curb appeal.
The homeowners’ goals are discussed to allow the design team to better understand how to proceed with the project plan. Since most homeowners are not familiar with the many current siding, roofing, door, and window options available, the team will make suggestions based on the home, the objectives of the owner, and the home’s setting. That type of input allows clients to better understand their options and have the knowledge necessary to make decisions.
When comfort is important, homeowners are strongly encouraged to replace ageing, drafty windows with options designed to eliminate those drafts and, at the same time, take advantage of coatings that minimize the potential for damage to the home’s interior. Of course, new, high-quality doors provide the same types of benefits and enhance the look and feel of a home.
Main Floor Renovations
The majority of older homes have main floor living spaces cut up into numerous small rooms. That typically means someone in the kitchen can’t carry out a conversation with guests or family members in other spaces. Modern floor plans often include open floor plans that make it possible for anyone in the home’s main living areas to communicate easily.
Older homes also tended to include spaces that were rarely used. That’s especially true of formal dining spaces that were cut off from other rooms. That’s rare to see today, as most dining spaces are easily accessible from great room areas and kitchens.
While built-ins are still popular, many more contemporary plans include entirely different styles and designs than older iterations. Entertainment areas, for example, focus on large-screen televisions and associated audio equipment, but that equipment is designed to fit into a space neatly without feeling intrusive.
Fluid traffic patterns are also a basic requirement in modern homes. Whether using a home’s primary, front entrance or a rear entry, pathways must be easily travelled and not require additional turns. Careful planning makes it easy for residents to bring the groceries in or move from sleeping areas to the laundry space without feeling challenged when doing so.
Many older homes will have existing floorplans that are rather easy to update, but other properties may require homeowners to consider other, more extensive renovations. If you’re unsure how to make a floorplan function, the team is always here to help. The design experts work closely with property owners to develop plans that will work both now and well into the future.
Days begin and end in the bedroom. Newer designs generally incorporate some type of en-suite to enhance the home’s master bedroom space. Owners are often looking for ways to enlarge an existing bath area, add customized walk-in closets, and update bedroom spaces.
Renovated bathrooms now commonly use large, walk-in showers and luxurious soaking tubs rather than a traditional tub and shower arrangement. While those elements require adding square footage in most homes, owners can often take footage from adjoining areas to create a new en-suite area. However, the design can include whatever features you’re looking for. There is no reason to put off creating that new en-suite area where you’ll truly enjoy getting up every morning.
En-suites are also routinely added during full home renovations. Owners have many possible options to select from when updating an ageing home, but contacting a top contractor and design team will be necessary to achieve the best results.
Now Is the Time to Get Started
Since it takes time to carefully craft a design, it’s essential to start a project now so you’ll be able to begin enjoying the results as soon as possible. The design team discusses the homeowners’ plans, drafts preliminary plans, and discusses those plans with the owner before moving forward.
Since your satisfaction is always important, everyone involved in the project is dedicated to ensuring your goals are met or exceeded. That isn’t always easy, as some structures are more difficult than others to renovate, but the end result is always worth the effort.
Taking the first step is sometimes difficult, but a simple phone call or online message is all it takes to start the process. If you’re looking for a team that’s proven to deliver top-quality results, get in touch today. We’re here to make sure your project flows smoothly, and the results fit your vision.
