In The Blue

The client wanted a revamped 6-room home renovation that incorporated physical warmth, hard-wearing materials, and “lightness of being” (inspired by her daily meditation practice). This family wanted a renovation that would make the kitchen a masterpiece and provide numerous places to sit and gather, revamp the main floor bathroom and create a cozy bedroom for their frequent visitors. The floor throughout is set in a herringbone lay of dark faux wood porcelain tile, a nod to the earthiness of the client’s outlook and in deference to the family’s large dog Cedar (whose nails pack a 2000lbs per inch punch that would demolish any hardwood application). The new kitchen has a leaning counter, triple the storage of the previous incarnation, and a professional-grade over-sized refrigerator that can hold the whole Costco run. We transformed the entire west wall into a series of windows, over which our designer lovingly applied a variety of insightful options for light management, including 90% shades, a remote controlled awning, Manhattan loft-inspired blackout drapes, and roman blinds (it works). The new expanded main floor bathroom has a walk-in shower, gorgeous bubble-filled pendant lights above a full vanity, and separate entry to the guest room. Overall: a triumph.
